In 1994, 796 participants turned out for the inaugural Run to Feed the Hungry event on Thanksgiving morning. This Sacramento tradition, now celebrating a record-breaking 29,002 participants in 2016, is not only the largest run in Sacramento but also the largest Thanksgiving Day fun run in the country!
Run to Feed the Hungry is owned by Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services and all profits directly benefit the organization. The costs associated with putting on this event are kept low as a result of our generous sponsors, contributions of goods and services and through the incredible volunteer efforts of the community! More Than Just a Meal
Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services (SFBFS) offers 15 diverse services, all focusing on education and moving families to self-sufficiency and financial independence. This is made possible through the help of over 10,000 volunteers who contribute more than 85,000 hours every year. SFBFS is unique in that the organization is not based on a traditional food bank model. SFBFS directly serves families in our community and offers a hand up in the form of education, not a hand out, to each individual who seeks assistance. SFBFS is supported through private donors, some grants and special events such as Run to Feed the Hungry. SFBFS provides food, clothing, education and hope to 135,000 men, women and children each month thanks to your support.
Your contribution and support will be felt by thousands of families in need throughout our community. The funds raised at this event will impact men, women and children in our community every day by providing free emergency goods and life-changing services including food, diapers, clothing, mentoring, education and hope.
